`A' Pillar - Water Leaks

LEAKS - WATER - AROUND "A" PILLAR AREA - VEHICLES BUILT FROM JOB-1 THROUGH 6/6/93
LINCOLN-MERCURY:

ISSUE:
Water leaks around the "A" pillar area may be caused by the windshield header weatherstrip.
ACTION:
A revised windshield header weatherstrip is now available which will provide improved sealing in the "A" pillar area.
Inspect for water leaks in the area of the "A" pillars. If inspection reveals that the convertible top is adjusted properly and leaks still exist, install a
revised windshield header weatherstrip. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
The new level windshield header weatherstrip provides improved sealing with the following features, Figure 1:

An extended trim lip along the "A" pillar section to eliminate gaps

An extended plug in the ends of the weatherstrip (where the weatherstrip joins to the door weatherstrips) to eliminate water leakage caused
by weatherstrip "puckering"
When the replacement of an older level windshield header weatherstrip is required, it is necessary to rework the door weatherstrips.
NOTE:
THE NEW LEVEL WINDSHIELD HEADER WEATHERSTRIP INCLUDES AN EXTENDED PLUG WHICH HAS PREVIOUSLY BEEN
PART OF THE DOOR WEATHERSTRIPS.
WINDSHIELD HEADER WEATHERSTRIP REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE
1.
Remove the header weatherstrip.
